Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto today urged uninsured New Jerseyans to sign up for Affordable Care Act health insurance before the Feb. 15 deadline and the end of this year’s open enrollment.
Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen) urged New Jerseyans to visit www.healthcare.gov.
“We’ve made great strides under the Affordable Care Act, but we still have work to do to get everyone covered,” Prieto said. “According to federal statistics, more than 80 percent of New Jerseyans who purchased plans at HealthCare.gov have qualified for subsidies to defray the cost of coverage, so help is there for those who need it. Consumers can shop for an affordable plan that fits their need. Everyone who needs it should take advantage of this opportunity.”
Statistics show the number of uninsured New Jersey non-elderly adults decreased from 21.2 percent in September 2013 to 11.5 percent in June 2014, and Prieto said he’d like to see that number cut even further.
“We all benefit when everyone has health coverage,” Prieto said. “New Jersey is heading in the right direction, but I urge everyone who needs it to sign up before Feb. 15 so we can continue to make great progress in ensuring quality health care for everyone.”
