Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) released the following statement Wednesday after President Obama proposed an assault weapons ban, improved background checks for gun buyers and other measures to curb gun violence:
“President Obama’s plan is common sense, and I am hopeful Congress will do what’s right and approve this package. We’ve mourned far too often to stand idle at this moment in history.
“Whether it’s on the streets of our New Jersey communities, a movie theater in Colorado or a school in Connecticut, enough is enough. No more talk. It’s time to do something. President Obama’s proposal marks a significant step forward and should be approved, but we should not stop there.
“The Assembly is developing measures to curb gun violence and improve mental health services here in New Jersey, and will soon move forward with a plan. Many Assembly members have put forth outstanding ideas to tackle gun violence and mental health services, and we’ll be advancing a strong package to make our state a safer place.
“But we also have to enforce what’s already on the books, and that includes the Christie administration and its abject failure to fully implement the involuntary outpatient mental health treatment law I sponsored. Gov. Christie cannot call for a focus on mental health while simultaneously ignoring this law. This is a time for action, not double-speak.” TLS.
this was issued as a set of executive orders. there was nothing proposed for congress to approve. this is totally disingenuous on the part of the speaker.
When American citizens are disarmed, there will be nothing stopping a dictator from seizing power and killing Jews.
Actually, there will be nothing stopping a dictator from seizing power and taking away Americans’ freedoms, or from doing anything else that violates the Constitution. The thing is, some people just don’t understand why its so important that the president not be allowed to violate the Constitution, and why Americans need to be armed to protect our Constitution.
So to those people I say: When the president doesn’t feel duty-bound to uphold the Constitution anymore, because the citizens are disarmed and nobody can stop him from becoming a dictator, he can also start killing Jews, and who will stop him?
Now, do you understand?
Allowing the general public to have access to guns is an invitation to disaster. I come from such a country and the crime has escalated out of control

The general American public has had access to guns in this country since its inception, and it has not been a disaster. In fact, thanks to American citizens having guns, we’ve been the most free and prosperous country in the world, so much so that you have seen it fit to emigrate to our beloved country from whichever backwards disastrous country you came from.
The Nazis took away the guns from all German citizens right after they came to power. Was that not an invitation to disaster? Did the crime rate in Germany go down??????????????????????????????
the UK has no guns, and yes their gun rate death is less than 100, but its still the most dangerous country in the EU. its more dangerous than south Africa. its got over 2,000 violent crimes per 100,000 – compared to the USA which stands at just over 400 per 100,000. that info speaks volumes.
i dont care who says what, who is president or governor, no one is taking away my right to defend my home and my family.

I believe that there is a very strong possibility that this will cause a civil war. Americans are stocking up now in record numbers.
