The New Jersey Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee advanced bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senator Bob Singer (R-Monmouth, Ocean) that would extend protections ensuring patients pay no more out of pocket for a telehealth visit than they would for the same appointment in person.

The bill extends the current requirement that health insurance companies reimburse telehealth visits at the same rate as in-person care through December 31, 2027. Without the extension, the requirement is set to expire on July 1, 2026. The bill covers private insurance plans, Medicaid, NJ FamilyCare, and State employee health plans.

“Telehealth has become a reliable way for many people to access healthcare, and patients should be able to continue using it without worrying about higher costs,” said Sen. Singer. “This bill provides continued certainty for both patients and healthcare providers while helping ensure care remains accessible across New Jersey.”
