  1. Two choices for “Yes” and none for “No”? Talk about rigged!
While it is commendable for the girls to be off on Friday to help their mothers, how realistic is that? It is much more likely that the girls will stay up late on Thursday to be with their friends, and will sleep late on Friday. It is even possible that the time they will finally wake up will be past the time they would have come home from school!
If girls are given off on Fridays, they should come to school Sunday morning, instead.

  2. I voted yes. When I was in HS, my bus would pick me up at 7:15 (first stop) and school started at 8:30. class was over by 11:30, and then another hour on the bus. so over 2 hours on the bus for 3 hours of learning (of which 45 minutes was davening)
So there were 4 periods, each about 30 minutes, but once everyone gets settled, attendance, etc. there would be tops 20 minutes to learn. times 4 periods, so total of an hour and 20 minutes were actually spent learning.
It’s just not worth it; I remember being so frustrated with wasting so much time for so little learning.

  3. I let my daughters stay home any Friday they want to help. They knows if they don’t help I will not excuse them the next time. Yes, they do sleep a little later – till 9 (as opposed to 6:45 am)
They are girls who doesn’t make trouble or stand out in other ways, and the school looks the other way.
And yes, we specifically sent to a school that is a little less rigid with attendance since we know our parenting style 🙂

  4. No way! And certainly not if the school hours aren’t being made up

The girls won’t spend the time productively helping parents. They will spend the time sleeping, and then looking for something to do that may even bring them in conflict with their parents.

    H’Batalah mavey l….

  5. i would add one line to the poll. Yes, but they must get a note from a parent that they helped for x amount of hours on Friday.
    (Thursday doesn’t count.)

  6. As a mother, and high school teacher, I am 1000% certain that all you will achieve is make every week midwinter. Or if you are lucky, the girls will just sleep late.

  7. I never understood why they need to get tests and work really hard for their diploma. The boys don’t need to work for it.
Also teach them skills, like graphic designing, coding, accounting.

  8. My daughter was off on fridays from middle school and then had school on Sundays. She definitely slept late but also helped a lot. We also used the time to get things done that we never had time for otherwise (like shopping, only once the cooking was done, an incentive haha). I grew up having school on Fridays and we too would go shopping once our work was done (remember Lehmann’s?).

  9. If there is no busing-like my daughter has, then yes give off, do you know how hard it is to work and try to get your daughter home while you are working?

No school Sunday unless it comes with transpiration, I need a break one day a week from carpool.

  10. Yes give them off and a few more days here and there. And then in a few years time we’ll have another letter about all the girls hanging out in the malls and how terrible that is and what we can do about that. And how employers don’t want to employ the girls because they have no education, and how wrong that is and why can’t the employers educate the girls on their dime….
.. honestly maybe it’s a good idea to give them off on the early Fridays and maybe cut out the silly plays song and dances cantatas etc and finally get down to real learning. There seems to be more play than learning nowadays. They can play at home schools meant for learning and learning only.
