Question:
Dear Mayor,
I am writing to request that the intersection of 7th Street and Princeton Avenue be evaluated for replacement of the current four-way stop with a traffic light.
This intersection has become extremely busy, and traffic frequently backs up significantly. A four-way stop may work well when traffic volume is relatively low, but at this intersection, the amount of traffic makes the stop signs inefficient.
A traffic signal would be much more effective at managing the volume of traffic because it would allow traffic to move in an organized manner, giving each direction a designated period to proceed. Rather than having vehicles from all four directions repeatedly stop and wait for one another, a signal could keep traffic moving through the intersection.
I believe this intersection warrants serious consideration based on the current volume of traffic and recurring congestion.

i think the a traffic light at the intersection of Pine Street and Washington Street is long overdue
As a neighborhood resident the big question is, the traffic buildup is at playgroup pickup and drop off times, school bus times etc. most of the day the traffic flow is relatively normal. Would this light be slowing down Princeton most of the day for a little better flow during busy times. Secondly there will then need to be a synchronized light on Monmouth and seventh to keep the flow on seventh which is a main east to west artery
So with the traffic lights just be courteous driver

If they do a light, it needs to be red and green during peak hours, and blinking (in other words reverting to a four-way stop) during off-peak times.
If they don’t do a study at the correct times, they will not have a true picture.
Maybe slow down on the influx to Lakewood?It wasn’t made to handle 150 k…let alone 100k….Just one or two years to allow all the infrastructure and roads etc to catch up…
Yes. Princeton is backed up 3 blocks during school dismissal; I sit in that traffic occasionally; Plus there will be less accidents there on all other times.
A traffic light will not help at 7th and Princeton because either way between 7th and Park is backed up, 4th and Princeton is backed up and 7th and Monmouth is backed up. All a light would do is cause cars to drive into the intersection by the greens and then sit there and not let cars go in the other directions. A 3 way stop by 4th and Princeton would be a great idea as it is a very dangerous intersection the way it runs right now. I think the Lakewood community is very good at 4 way stops. In other communities they might not work so well because shluffy drivers dont realize it is their turn.
Yes, PLEASE do something about 4th and Princeton it is a disaster. The issue is that it needs to be dealt with together with the whole 4th, Ridge and Park intersection (by the Old Shul) which is a disaster as well.
A few years ago we asked the township to put a light there after some accidents, and they sort of said that ppl need to be killed in accidents to get a light put there!!! Please we DO NOT need that! There is crazy backup by that corner every morning and afternoon. I thought the light by Park & E 7th was a waste, but it is moving traffic much faster than the 4-way stop signs.
