Sen. Bob Singer Won’t Be Senate Minority Leader, Will Maintain Leadership Position

Republican State Senator Bob Singer will not become the Senate Minority Leader, though he will maintain his status as a leader of the Senate Republicans. The news comes after Senator Steve Oroho apparently garnered enough support to guarantee his becoming the next Senator minority leader.

Senator Oroho, Senator Singer, and Senator Joseph Pennacchio were all vying for the spot, but Oroho ultimately gained more support than the other candidates, who will both withdraw their candidacies to be minority leader this week.

The current minority leader, Sen. Tom Kean, is not seeking reelection to the Senate as he focuses on running for a Congressional seat in New Jersey’s 7th District. Kean is looking to beat Rep. Tom Malinowski in a rematch.

The Assembly will also get a new minority leader, as current minority leader Jon Bramnick is giving up his seat to replace Kean in the Senate. The race for Assembly minority leader is currently tight, with Nancy Munoz and Brian Bergen both vying for the position.

Official elections for leadership positions are scheduled to take place next Thursday, following Tuesday’s general election.
