UPDATED: Route 70 Flea Market Proposed Development Plan to be Heard

flea_market_rt_70_tlsThe Planning Board is expected to be presented with a development plan for the flea market on Route 70 during the upcoming meeting.

Developers will present a plan that includes 166 townhomes, as well as approximately 15,000 square footage of retail space, and a community building of about 5,000 square feet.

One flea market retailer wasn’t too happy about the plans.

“A lot of us in town depend on the flea market to make ends meet,” the retailer said.

But a Board official told TLS he doesn’t see an issue with developers wanting to develop the approximately 22 acre property.

“Lakewood citizens would love to remain in Lakewood, while the flea market can probably find a similar size location a few minutes down the road in Manchester or the likes, for a fraction of the price.”

The flea market reportedly leased the property when it opened over 30 years ago by Ray Reynolds. The market is currently run by the second generation Reynolds family.

UPDATE 9:50 PM: The plan has been approved this evening by the Planning Board. The plans will still require state and other approvals.

  1. While 22 acres sounds large . it’s quite small in the context of 166 townhouses which translates to about 664 cars(2 per family plus basement). And that’s not even considering the commercial aspect of it.

  2. If it was for lakewood people I hear but this is for people moving from NY. We are not obligated to crowd up town further to move people in from out of town…..

  3. The property has not been sold and the current owners aren’t going anywhere says their fb page. A lot of info was left out of this article apparently.

  4. What kind of rotten person who started a rumour saying that the flea market is going to be sold? I hope your happy because the last day was on Sunday December 29,2019
