A Lakewood man was arrested by Point Pleasant Police for his alleged carjacking and robbing of a motorist in Lakewood, Detective Greg Staffordsmith says.
On January 22, a man called Lakewood police and reported that he was the victim of a carjacking.
Responding Officers located the man in the area of East 4th St and Manetta Avenue. He advised the officers that he was approached by an unknown black male in the Quick Check parking lot located at 198 New Hampshire Avenue, Staffordsmith says. The suspect asked the victim for a ride so he obliged.
He ultimately directed him to the area of Manetta Ave and East 4th Street, where he told the victim to exit his 2001 Nissan Maxima. “He then grabbed the victim and proceeded to rob him, Staffordsmith says. “However, the victim was able to break free and fled on foot. As the victim continued to run, the suspect stole his vehicle.”
Further investigation conducted by Det. Craig Fink led to the identification of 45 year John Brown of Lakewood as the man who committed the carjacking, Staffordsmith says. As a result, a warrant was issued for his arrest. Bail was set in the amount of $250,000 no 10%.
Yesterday afternoon, Brown was located and arrested by the Pt. Pleasant Police Department.
