PSA: K9 Web Filter is No Longer Updating – Is Your Computer Still Protected?

[COMMUNICATED] In May 2016 Symantec bought Blue Coat, the parent company of K9 Web Filter. On May 1, 2018, K9 posted on their website that they are no longer supporting the K9 Filter. They write “Effective May 1, 2018, K9 Web Protection for Organizations is no longer available for purchase. Note that support will continue to be provided for existing customers until current subscriptions end… K9 has been acquired by Symantec Corporation, which makes Norton Security.”

If you are a K9 user your computer is no longer safe with the most updated filtering protection.

Netspark the leader in filtering technology has recently launched a new filter for the PC. NetSpark’s technology is very different from any other filters on the market. There are millions of new content on the web every day including text, pictures, and video. It is impossible for a conventional filter or safe browser to be able to compete with the constant updates and constant flux of new content on websites.

NetSpark inspects the content being accessed and purifies it in real-time. NetSpark’s AI modules assess images and videos and seamlessly extract only the objectionable elements. Entire web pages are not blocked; users can, therefore, access all websites that they need for work. Also, the ultra-precise AI eliminates “false-positives” – it won’t mistakenly label a clean web page as problematic.

NetSpark is very easy to use and can be customized to your needs. Users can self-manage it by choosing from four predefined filtering profiles ranging from “Light” to “Block All.” A Custom Protection Level is also available, in which people can depend upon their own judgment to define the filtering rules and release content including social media and YouTube. Our technical support team will be happy to help you customize your filtering needs. Additionally, If you would like someone to help you control your filtration, all TAG offices are trained to install and customize our software giving you that extra security and peace of mind.

You can try the new PC filter for free! Sign up and join hundreds of thousands of other happy Netspark users from around the world. Use coupon code PC30DAY for your free 30-day trial and Happy Surfing!

  1. The exact quote from the K9 website reads “Protect Your Organization! Effective May 1, 2018, K9 Web Protection for Organizations is no longer available for purchase. Note that support will continue to be provided for existing customers until current subscriptions end. K9 Web Protection will also continue to be available for free home and personal use.” Therefore the information above does not apply to the standard K9 download for personal use.

  2. NOT TRUE. They are only discontinuing the paid business subscriptions. They are continuing to provide the free version as before.

  3. Netspark is certainly better than K9 (YouTube is commonly open when using K9 filter, no matter how hard you try to block it in the K9 settings). That said, Netspark for Windows doesn’t come close to NativUSA and Gentech in overall performance. If you want to try a lower-priced filter with more lenient settings, definitely give it a try.

  4. It does say “Communicated” at the beginning of the article. However the ad itself is deceptive as they selectively quote only part of the statement from the K9 website.
