PSA: Free Jewish App Lehallel Plays The Exact Minute A Rav Answers Your Question

Lehallel (lehallel.com), a free website and app for Torah, shiurim and Jewish music, says its library now holds more than 400,000 videos, each one checked before it can appear, with no comments under them. According to Lehallel, it opens in any phone or computer browser, and Android users can install it from Google Play.

Lehallel describes these features:

Ask anything. A user types a question in ordinary words, such as “a short shiur on bitachon for a hard day,” and Lehallel plays the exact minute in a shiur where a rabbi answers it, says how long the answer runs, and lists other rabbis who answer the same question. Every answer carries the line: “Different minhag or personal situation? Ask your rav.”

Search inside any shiur. Instead of searching titles, users search the words a rabbi actually said and jump straight to the minute he said them.

Learn with a chavrusa. Aneni, built into Lehallel, offers free video and voice calls between Lehallel users. Each user gets an Aneni number or keeps their own cell number. During a call, two chavrusos can open the same page of a sefer, and it turns for both of them.

A library of sefarim. 6,010 sefarim in Hebrew and English, including Tanach, Shas and the meforshim, can be searched from inside, with Hebrew letters on the screen for anyone without a Hebrew keyboard. A search for Tehillim 23, for example, finds the perek itself and 906 places in 160 sefarim that quote it.

Daf Yomi on the real Vilna page, with shiurim on that daf and every masechta of Shas a press away.

Zmanim for your own town, with the tefillos for the time of day.

Live shiurim and shuls streaming right now, including the camera at the Kosel, from channels on Lehallel.

Jewish radio. A press on a station and it plays, or a few words, such as “happy songs,” and Lehallel tunes a station to match.

The Yanuka in English. Rav Shlomo Yehuda’s shiurim from his own channel, translated into English part by part, so English speakers can watch and read along. Lehallel says 375 shiurim are available so far.

Lehallel carries pages for 292 rabbis and speakers and 197 singers and artists. It is free and asks only for a free account. In its own words: “No card is taken anywhere on this site.”

I would adjust the title to read ‘plays the exact minute of a shiur where a rav explains your question’. As it is, it sounds like it will give a ding when a rav answers your halacha shaila – like an incoming text diinging
