A new poll shows a majority of New Jersey voters approve of Gov. Chris Christie’s proposal requiring public workers to pay higher health care premiums. Voters are split at 46 percent over whether to cut pensions for current workers. Wednesday’s Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Press Media Poll finds nearly half of voters surveyed feel government workers should pay at least 25 percent of their health care premiums. They now pay about 8 percent.
The poll also finds 61 percent who say government salaries are adequate to compete with private-sector jobs. Six in 10 voters support eliminating pensions for future workers.
The telephone poll of 801 New Jerseyans was conducted Sept. 15-19 and has a sampling margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent. AP
NONSENSE !
I question how the poll phrased the question to get that response, you work your whole life and in the end and your employer either public or private just pushes you out the door with no financial obligation for when you retire !!
Christie won’t raise taxes but he’ll tax the state workers by freezing salaries, reducing benefits and eliminating pensions.
I work in the private sector. I don’t get any pension when I retire!
#3 then your employer gave you the option to put into a 401k and maybe even matched a portion of contributions. People with pensions are required to pay into the pension system, that’s their retirement plan.
Monies have been taken out of the teachers salaries and went to the state, toward their pensions, what has the state done, well, let’s see, did they borrow from the teachers? how were the investments going when the state invested their monies (teachers)?
NOW GOVERNOR CHRISTIE, gives a do or DIE notice to teachers retire now or pay for your health insurance, well, thank you Governor Christie, and now he will take the teachers, firemen, police add 5 more years, and say this is IS JUST FOR YOU,
HOW HONORABLE, now why don’t you make the public sector work until , how about age 70 as a cut off, will this help repay all the monies that need to be replaced, and whoooa, will this help pay the shortfall back in another 10 yrs,
Oh by the way, taKE CARE OF ALL THE REPRESENTATIVES RETIREMENTS AND HEALTH CARE ALSO, I AM SURE THEY ARE ON THE BACK BURNER. and send a notice to all the Local townships, that they are doing a great job, and know how well they increase their stipends, and health care withing the township committees.ET’S SEE, OWNSHIP COMMITTE IN LAKEWOOD, 20,000 yearly plus healthcare,
