  1. they should’ve brought in the police a long time ago, it is not even a frumkeit to withold information which can protect individuals, neighborhoods, and ultimately save the perpetrators themselves from getting too deeply in trouble

  2. This is what happens when you shelter your kids and try to control their entire lives. These kids created the own little gang. This isn’t the first time someone was attacked in Westgate and it won’t be the last.

    • One small group turns out like that and you besmirch hundreds of thousands of children who grew up sheltered by their parents and turned out beautifully. Shame on you

      • Just because it worked for some doesn’t make it right. There is no such thing as one size fits all when it comes to Chinuch. Every single Jewish neshmah counts so if this system makes “One small group turn out like that” (fyi I deal with them it’s actually a decent size group) then the system is flawed and needs to be updated!

    • ha. can you muster any proof at all that these kids were “sheltered” or that their parents tried to control their lives?
Are the criminals from other areas, say bed-sty, or harlem, also due to being too sheltered?
      Just curious.

      • Yes I can! Go down one night and talk to these kids hear them listen to their struggles. You’ll see that there is a common cause among most of them!

        • Of course that what the kids say! Everyone claims to be a victim and not take responsibility, thats what our generation is all about! All the askonim also think this, thats why the problem exists!
Let them learn that there are consequences for their actions, like we did when we were kids.

Blame the schools, the system, the parents, blame being sheltered, blame everything, just don’t look in the mirror and ask yourself, what am I doing to be better?
The facts are there were always people in every society that struggle, this is not a new issue. How we deal with it has been proven not to work!!
Let them sit in jail or juvenile detention center for a bit, you will see a different attitude very soon.

          • You couldn’t be more wrong. Jail ignoring etc is the worst you could do. I’ve dealt with kids somewhat like this except without the violence. All of a sudden 1/2 my sons class went off the d. I wanted my kid near me. So my wife and I decided to have the over for BBQ took them bowling ones fri night bedekas chometz night bbq etc let them hang out yes they got drink from time to time yes they were a little rough around the edges but with a place to blow off steam a place that wasn’t judgmental getting to know there issues with the exception of 1 kid over 6 months to 2 years they all came back on the d love love love and not being judgmental

    • Right. So give them whatever they want, whenever they want, wherever they want, and they’ll give you nachas always. Not sure which universe you live in. lol

  3. It’s true that one size does not fit all. That means that for some kids, sheltering works beautifully. I know many who were raised that way and grew up to be fine Yidden. It also means that when you see it’s not working, you have to try a different track. Chanoch lena’ar al pi darko goes both ways. We don’t have to give up on sheltering, but we have to be flexible when necessary.

  4. Before anyone jumps to conclusions. I’m sure Yossi has cameras in the store. Let him post what really happened. Were these kids really the rowdy that he asked them to leave. If yeshiva buchrim would come in would he throw them out? These kids are frustrated with the way they have been treated. They feel picked on stamp on and nothing they do will ever be accepted. If anyone that is not from the community come there would they be thrown out all so. Look what goes on all over does someone call the cops because there are people walking with girls NO so why are we calling the cops when one of our own is?

    • Excuse me were you there I’ve been there awhile back when the kids were extremely rowdy noisy disruptive Yussi doesn’t throw them out for no reason

  5. please take a minute to ask yourself why these teens are in pain, and are WE the root cause.. Then figure out how we can accept them and bring them back. Ultimately that is the goal. not to drive them away.

  6. the reason these children came out this way was because they were too exposed to the gutter we need shelter ourselves more like the kiryas yoel crowd who have lower OTD rates.

  7. I have personally witnessed Mr. Weiss try (including spending thousands of dollars out of pocket) for months on end to settle this peacefully. There is no reason in the world that a guy like him trying to run a business should have to put up with this!
And yes these kids do need help, but that is not an answer for repeated violence in a otherwise beautiful community

  8. Everyone should just mind their own business. Stay home and hide under your bed if you have a problem with teeangers. But don’t comment here as if your some chinuch expert.

  9. @Alex frumie, [based on the first of your two comments on this article,] in all seriousness, it sounds like it would be a big mitzvah for you to get involved with these boys. Their parents and others will probably pay you.
