Police Chief Rob Lawson Thanks Hatzolah And EMS For Assisting Officers

hatz_and_ems_assisting_shimonovich_in_arrestPHOTO: “I’d like to thank Hatzolah as well as EMS for assisting the officers”, Police Chief Rob Lawson told TLS today after viewing the video of his Officers tackling and arresting two men following a fight at the scene of an MVA last night. “In fact, if you can identify the Hatzolah member for me, I’d like to personally thank him”, the Chief said.

When questioned about the legal aspect of assisting the officers, the Chief said, “It’s absolutely legal”, comparing it to a citizen assisting an officer, which says the Chief is legal, unless the one assisting was specifically requested not to.

The Chief contacted TLS this afternoon requesting an unedited copy of the TLS video, which the chief says will be used for training purposes.

“There were things I liked and things I didn’t like in the video”, the Chief said, pointing out several details in the video which he says will be shown during training. “It was excellent footage”, the Chief said.

The video shows several officers tackling two men after a fight erupted at the scene of an MVA at the intersection of County Line Road and Lexington Avenue at about 8:00 p.m.

In the video, Veteran Hatzolah member Sam Stein, together with EMS member Dave Rice, can clearly be seen assisting Officer J. Shimonovich taking down a man, while other officers were taking down another.

  1. says thanks to the hatzola and ems and the police for doin all a great job.

and further more a bigger thanks to the chief for sharing his gratitude and insight that clarifies any doubt in the public eye on what took place.
we are grateful for having a chief like chief Lawson, he steps up to the plate whenever necessary. thanx chief you know who i am (hint i am not a macher)

  2. Dave nice job always knew you had it in you
Sam or sammy don’t know who you are but you really seem like a stand up guy
    Thanks to both of you
And of course a big huge thanks to LPD for outstanding work

  3. Shmuely we are proud of you. And so all the Hatzolah medics that flew out this weekend to California for a seminar missed the action. To all the medics in California if you are blogging on the scoop (betweem classes) from all of us back in Lakewood have a great Shabbos.

  4. To #11 are you insane. The police,Sam, and Dave help prevent a riot. I was on Scene and i really felt if something was not done fast we would have a lot more to talk about then just 2 people getting arrested. The Police acted quickly to defuse what could have been a scary scene, that being said THANK YOU Officers and their assistance.
P.S the story continued in KMC and i believe the police arrested another in the ER.

  5. IMO Hatzolah has no business whatsoever being involved in this. They are not law enforcement. I would understand someone stepping in to help if the officer was being physically threatened, and it’s hard to tell from this video, but it doesn’t seem that the officer was at risk in any way, just couldn’t take the guy down without help. If that is the case, EMS and Hatzolah have no business whatsoever getting physically involved. It’s called assault. Mr. Lawson is a police officer, so it’s understandable that he feels the way he does. I would clarify some finer points of law with a qualified attorney.

  6. I guess you would veto electric chairs as well. We need to discouarge crime, & this is the only language they understand. Police officers used to patrol Harlem with a club, by foot without any backup behind them. They feared the law. But nowadays, the ACLU & their ilk make it hard for officers to do their job properly.
Thanks to all the officers who put their life on the line everytime.

  7. Does anyone know if Officer Scannel took advantage of the 99 cents, 5 buffalo wings special. I really think that he should wear 5 buffalo wings on his chest and arm – as a medal of honor. This will make him a 5 star General.

  8. Unfortunatly Mr. Rice is all out of business cards and stickers. But ill see if we can get a picture for you Mr president… lol
