  1. This is the Rino that called for Trump’s resignation and backed out of the 1/6 hearings. Coward. He’s from CA. What business does he have being in Lakewood?

  2. He’s pandering to Pelosi, Schumer and Schiff while true patriots rot in jail in DC because they peacefully stood outside the Capitol. He backed out of justice for Jan 6 victims by running away from the fake hearings and convinced other GOP members to do so also.

  3. He defended many difficult issues and tries politically to come out on many issues challenging our nation without saying anything terribly offensive -he spoke a whole night to avoid the passing of the crazy spending. So yes we could wish he was sometimes a little more open about being the side of the right and against the leftist crazy stuff. But he is first a politician. And second a guy who tries

  4. Although I don’t think it would have much impact on the frum community, but maybe there’s a little background here, after all, Lakewood does have a large non-frum population so there may be some blowback to the R vs. W. decision.

Smith is the chief sponsor of “The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” which passed the House in 2017, (way before the SC overturned R vs. W), which would ban abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy. The issue is what inspired him to run for office. He wants to lower his proposed 20-week abortion ban down to 15 weeks in light of the Supreme Court eliminating the constitutional right to an abortion. McCarthy expressed “support” for the “idea” on Friday, however, McCarthy did not commit to putting any specific pieces of anti-abortion legislation on the House floor even if they do recapture the majority. That is telling in and of itself.

Besides Chris’ 20-week ban bill, there is also a stricter measure in the GOP House that would prohibit abortions once cardiac activity is detected, which has more than 100 Republican co-sponsors in the House. Smith added, “But we don’t have at this point the ability to overcome a veto or a filibuster.”

I would have to say that, yes, McCarthy is first a politician but Smith is a guy who never gives up.
