Today, on this National Signing Day, two Lakewood High School student athletes signed a National Letter of Intent to further their education and pursue their athletic career.
In a crowded room of fellow students, coaches and staff, Lakewood High School Seniors Datrell Reed (pictured right) and Chapelle Cook signed the papers to pursue their careers in Villanova University and Temple University, respectively.
The students, who had top scores both on and off the field, received offers from approximately 20 different universities, and will receive a free scholarship for the duration of their advanced education.
“Hard work pays off,” was the message the school officials had to the peers of the students.
Last year, Lakewood High School Senior Maurice Diawara signed a National Letter of Intent to play NCAA Division I Football at Wagner University, Staten Island, New York. The year prior, LHS Senior Tyrice Beverette signed a National Letter of Intent with Stony Brook University.

Go Lakewood!
Great job, guys. Just one word of advice: If ur the QB, 2d & goal, Down by 4 at the 1 yard-line, w/ under 30 seconds left in a Super Bowl. W/ Marshan in the backfield, dont throw the slant. Just hand it off. Game over.
Congrats! Piner Pride

Extremely proud of the great news today. You two gentlemen deserve it and I wish you both nothing but at success in the next level as this will be hard work but nothing you won’t be prepared for. My thoughts and prayers go out to you are your families as you prepare for graduation and the upcoming fall in college. You can do it. Enjoy the atmosphere but remember to stay in the books and maintain balance and success on and off the field. Congrats to LJ Clark and the coaches. It is such a good feeling to see great things coming from the staff and it will only get better. Let’s continue to support these young men throughout.
