Two Jackson Township Police officers assigned to the department’s Special Response Team (SRT) recently earned an impressive 4th place overall finish at the 2026 Mammoth Sniper Challenge II, competing against some of the top precision rifle teams in the country.
Police Officers Curt Nagel and Chris Brown took part in the grueling 72-hour endurance competition, which pushes participants both physically and mentally. The event requires two-man teams to ruck more than 30 miles while carrying 60-pound packs filled with all mission-essential gear, all while engaging long-range steel targets from improvised positions and simulated hides.
Out of 100 registered teams, 84 began the challenge on Day One. Strict ruck time standards quickly narrowed the field, with only 65 teams advancing past the first day and just 59 remaining by the end of Day Two.
Nagel and Brown delivered a standout performance throughout the competition, taking 1st place in three of the twelve shooting stages, along with additional 3rd and 4th place finishes. The duo successfully engaged targets at distances of up to 988 yards.
Their achievement highlights the high level of training, discipline, and preparation within the Jackson Township Police Department’s Firearms Unit and Special Response Team.
