A tractor trailer crashed approximately 50 feet into a wooded area in Manchester on Friday, causing significant damage to the truck and forcing a temporary closure of Route 70.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 70 and County Route 539.
According to Manchester Township Police, a 2019 International tractor trailer carrying two large Conex shipping containers was traveling eastbound on Route 70 when the driver noticed the traffic signal turning yellow.
The driver applied heavy braking, causing the truck to skid toward the intersection. Police said the driver managed to partially regain control, steering the tractor trailer away from the intersection and into a wooded area, where it struck multiple trees before coming to a stop approximately 50 feet off the roadway.
Despite the truck sustaining heavy front-end damage, no other vehicles were struck, and the driver was uninjured.
Portions of the intersection remained closed for approximately two hours as crews worked to remove the tractor trailer and its cargo from the wooded area.
Police said poor weather conditions and driver inattention are believed to have been the primary contributing factors in the crash.
