PHOTOS: Pennsylvania State Troopers In Lakewood To Assist Local Authorities

PHOTOS: Of the 105 Pennsylvania State Troopers deployed to New Jersey to assist lcoal authorities, six of them were deployed to Lakewood. The Troopers are from the group of 280 Troopers who were sworn in yesterday to assist New Jersey law enforcement with the ongoing security and recovery operations in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

These deployments are being made under the provisions of the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) mutual aid agreement between the states.

“When hurricanes Katrina and Andrew struck, many New Jersey officers selflessly helped with the rescue and recovery efforts in Louisiana, Florida and the other hard-hit Gulf States,” Governor Christie said yesterday when his administration announced the deployment. “Now we have come full circle in our mutual support and service, with large contingents of officers coming here from Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida – we thank every single one of them. This is a proud moment for law enforcement, and another example of how people from across the country are seeing the devastation wrought by the storm, coming together, and helping our state and region pull together through this period of recovery.”

Troopers deploying to New Jersey from multiple State Police agencies include:

Pennsylvania State Police – 105
Maryland State Police – 25
Mississippi Highway Patrol – 50
Michigan State Police – 24
Florida Highway Patrol – 25
Maine State Police – 15
Louisiana State Police – 25
Vermont State Police – 11

These out-of-state law enforcement officers join an already multi-jurisdictional effort which now includes federal officers from the Department of Homeland Security, state personnel from the Department of Corrections and Division of Criminal Justice, and officers from many county and local departments.
