PHOTOS: Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Adds New Hovercraft To Strengthen Search And Rescue Capabilities

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office has added a new hovercraft to its fleet, giving the agency the ability to reach areas that traditional boats cannot, including shallow water, mudflats, and ice. The specialized vessel will enhance the Sheriff’s Office’s search and rescue capabilities across Ocean County’s waterways, particularly in areas that are difficult to access with conventional marine equipment.

To prepare for its deployment, members of the Sheriff’s Office recently conducted a training exercise on the bay, where they became familiar with the hovercraft’s handling and operational capabilities. Officials said the hands-on training will ensure personnel are ready to safely and effectively utilize the new vessel during emergency responses.
