Yisrael Eichler, a member of the Israeli Knesset, was in Lakewood this week for a visit.
MK Eichler, a member of Agudat Yisrael, serves as a member of the Knesset for the Jewish Torah Party. He is the Chairman of the Labor and Welfare Committee of the Knesset, which deals with labor, employment and welfare matters, which operates from the first Knesset.
During his visit, MK Eichler, met with various different officials and Askonim to get a glimpse of some of the operations and programs in the area.
Some of the officials he met with, were; Senator Bob Singer, Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles, Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller, Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein, Committeeman Albert Ackerman, Assemblyman Avi Schnall, and Captain Steve Allaire on behalf of the Lakewood Police Department.
“We had a very informative conversation ranging on topics from public transportation, social service functions and how we maintain security in today’s dangerous world,” Mayor Ray Coles told TLS. “It is very helpful to hear how people from other countries deal with the myriad of issues facing us today and very gratifying when we learn how much we have in common in our approaches, despite the thousands of miles which separate our homes.”
Prior to MK Eichler’s visit with Township officials, he was given a brief tour of some of the departments within the Township.
“MK Eichler is a man on a mission of helping others,” Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller told TLS. “We had the opportunity to discuss bureaucratic issues that some of our residents face when visiting Eretz Yisroel and vice-versa.”
Assemblyman Schnall told TLS, “It was a tremendous chizuk and opportunity to learn from someone that is a veteran in the world of Askanus. His advice and great tips were very valuable.”
The MK returned to Israel today.
I think lakewood has a lot to learn from Israel about public transportation and healthcare and other things.
Wow, Isaac Akerman knotted his tie for the first time in many years.
