PHOTOS: Medical Halacha Center Hosts Well-Attended Symposium For Rabbanim

On Monday, Lakewood’s Medical Halacha Center, a division of the Bais HaVaad, held the second in a series of seminars for Rabbanim on a variety of contemporary halachic issues as they relate to technology and current-day medical issues. Close to 70 local Rabbanim took advantage of this opportunity to learn about pressing halachic topics from leading halachic authorities and experts in the field.

The program began with a shiur from Rav Shmuel Felder, who touched on numerous matters of halacha, technology and medical devices.

Esteemed local periodontist, R’ Manis Berger then spoke about modern dental procedures and oral applications, explaining the ins and outs of these sometimes complicated methods and the related shailos that come up as a result. After an introduction by Rav Yosef Fund, one of the Medical Halacha Center’s leading halachic authorities, to the topic of “General Medical Devices: Practical Presentation & Implications of Assorted Medical Devices” an extremely informative PowerPoint was presented by Rabbi Daniel Roth MD, member of the Medical Halacha Center and Co-author of Sefer Refuas Yisroel, as well as a respected Clinical Associate Professor in Ophthalmology at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. In addition to their popular consultation line for medically related halacha questions, launched last year, there is also a shiur for Pesach in the works.

The Medical Halacha Center was launched as a division of the Bais HaVaad Halacha Center, and is staffed by prominent Poskim providing contemporary halachic guidance based on cutting edge medical knowledge. As medicine advances rapidly, Halachic authorities must stay apace. The Medical Halacha Center is up to date with current medical practices and its relevant Halachic application, enabling our Poskim to educate and guide doctors, Rabbanim, and, of course, the patient, through the prism of halacha.
