PHOTOS: LPD dedicates highway in memory of Officer William “Nichie” Preslar

The Lakewood Police Department today dedicated a highway in memory of one of their own, marking the 10 year anniversary of the Line-of-Duty death of Officer William “Nichie” Preslar.

Officer Preslar, a six year veteran, was killed in an car accident on May 14, 2007, on New Egypt Road, when he swerved to avoid striking a deer, and struck a tree.

During a ceremony at the police headquarters this morning, a memorial was unveiled, dedicating the highway as ‘William ‘Nichie’ Preslar Memorial Highway’.

Following the ceremony at headquarters, an unveiling was also held near the accident scene.

After the unveiling, the crowd made their way to the Fire Station on Cedarbridge Avenue for refreshments.

The ceremony was attended by the Township Committee members and other officials.
