The Jewish Troopers Association, Inc. hosted and sponsored its second annual scholarship awards ceremony yesterday, presenting three Lt. Sid Spiegel #1047 Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $1,047 each.
The scholarships honor Lt. Sidney “Sid” Spiegel’s badge number and lasting legacy. Lt. Spiegel was a World War II veteran, one of the earliest Jewish members of the New Jersey State Police, and served with distinction for 25 years.
The JTA was honored to hold the ceremony at Rutgers Chabad, where Rabbi Yossi Carlebach and Rabbi Mendy Carlebach graciously welcomed the organization, scholarship recipients, their families, members of law enforcement, and representatives of the Jewish community.
The JTA also recognized New Jersey State Police Superintendent Jeanne Hengemuhle and Lieutenant Colonel Kilcomons for their continued support of the JTA and New Jersey’s Jewish community.
“It was an honor to recognize these outstanding students while preserving Lt. Spiegel’s legacy for future generations,” said JTA President Marc Zislin.
