PHOTOS: It was a very emotional last night for former Toms River Police Chief and current Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy as he made the transition from one position to the next. It was emotional not just for the Sheriff, but for those who he worked so closely with over the past 41 years.
At 11:59 PM last night, Mastronardy signed off as Police Chief and handed in his radio for the last time, before being handed the reigns of the Sheriff’s Office.
The position of Police Chief was assumed by former Toms River Captain Mitch Little.
The Sheriff’s position was formerly held by William Polhemus who served until his death in 2012. His position was temporarily filled by William Sommeling.
