A horse missing since Friday was rescued, thanks to emergency personnel in Jackson.
The horse had been missing from a farm in Millstone township since Friday afternoon. The horse was eventually located by a hunter deep in the woods of Jackson Township.
Once the horse was located, it was determined to be stuck deep in mud. Based on the mud and terrain there was no access for heavy equipment in the woods to assist with the rescue. Firefighters worked alongside the horse owners, horse trainers, a veterinarian and good samaritans using shovels, axes, straps and a grip hoist to get the horse free from the mud. Once the horse was able to stand on his own, a stable path was created through the woods utilizing heavy rubber matts, to prevent the horse from sinking.
“Thanks to great team work the horse was brought to safety and transported for further care,” officials said. ”Local 4388 members are always happy to work with our neighboring agencies.”
