PHOTOS: A driver crashed into a backhoe after it was stolen and left in middle of the roadway early this morning, Detective Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith confirms to TLS.
At about 1 a.m., Police Officer Michael Marzocca responded to the area of County Line Road and East End Avenue in reference to a backhoe left unattended in the middle of the roadway.
Further investigation revealed that the backhoe was originally parked at a nearby construction sight approximately one block away on East End Avenue, and an unknown person(s) entered the backhoe and discovered that the keys were still inside.
“They then drove the equipment to the intersection of County Line Road and East End Avenue and then abandoned it before leaving the area,” says Staffordsmith.
As a result, the driver of a black 2001 GMC Yukon struck the bucket of the backhoe. The 19 year old Point Pleasant women was not injured.
A K-9 unit from Toms River PD responded to assist in tracking any potential suspects without success, Staffordsmith says. [TLS-LF/TLS-YR]
Was the driver of the Yukon talking or texting while driving ??
No. Just drunk thankfully
“As a result, the driver … struck the bucket of the backhoe.”
Maybe rather than a result of theft of the backhoe, it was a result of poor driving.
