PHOTOS: 360 7th Grade Middle School Students Graduate Anti-Gang and Violence Program

great 2PHOTOS: 360 7th Grade Middle School students today graduated the Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Program. G.R.E.A.T. is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum designed to prevent delinquency, violence and gang membership.

Under the directive of Lakewood Police Officers Alex Guzman and Pete La’Rosa, Detective Sandra Rodriguez of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and Sergeant Sean Van and Officer Joseph Meroni from the New Jersey Parole Officers Department, the students attended a 45 minute class each Tuesday throughout the year.

great 3“Law enforcement must take proactive measures to prevent the spread of crime and violence,” stated Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato about the program. “The G.R.E.A.T. Program does that for those we hold most precious – our children. I commend the members of my Office and participating departments for working tirelessly to bring the program to so many of our schools.”

  1. Im assuming you meant: anti-gang and anti-violence in The headline.
    Either this sounds like a food program. I wonder if this will effect crime & gang stats down the road.
