PHOTO: Two Lakewood Residents Sworn in to the IDF

idfTwo Lakewood residents were sworn in to the Israeli Defense Force this week.

In this photo, IDF soldier Yaakov Berdugo (center) also from Lakewood, is flanked by newly-sworn in Lone Soldiers Moshe Abraham (right) and Yackov Steinberg, who took the oath and were sworn in at the Michvay Alon base in Northern Israel.

“We are very proud of him and what he is doing,” a family member of Moshe told TLS.

Moshe decided to join the IDF after the recent war in Gaza.

“He has very strong feelings about Israel as the Jewish homeland, and feels very strongly it’s his duty to help out in any way he can,” the family member said.

Several other Lakewood boys, including Aaron Langert, joined the IDF in recent years.

Last year, a pro-Israel rally was held at Lakewood’s Red Square during Operation Protective Edge.

Steinberg and Abraham are expected to serve between 18-36 months, depending on which department they join.

  1. We are all very proud of you Moishy and all the Chayalim that are representing us all.
Our Tfillos for Sholom in the world should be answered with
    Bvias Hamoshiach Bkorov Byameinu.

  2. if you want to show youre support for our boys from lakewood enlisted in the IDF and other foreign volunteers.
There is a wonderful program that assists foreign volunteers / “lone soldiers”/”chayalim bodadim” such as the brave ones in the above article. You make contributions by donating food packages, gifts ,blankets etc.. financial support
    please go to Chayalelchayal.org
for more info and instructions . you may also personally adress any gifts or packages to a specific intended recipient. The soldiers in the photo ,speak highly of the organization and have already benifited from them ,by shabbos meals ,winter clothes ,networking with other foreign volenteers and overall having a nice healthy ,frum environment to spend their downtime when off base ..
thank you all for support in advance
    stay safe guys .

  3. Moshe, you are performing an incredible act of courage and altruism by risking your life to protect Israel. Just as you had the strength to fulfill this ambition you should have strength to fulfill many more. I am happy for the little part I played in helping you get there. Your parents (and your brother AZ!) should have lots of happiness from you!

  4. I met these boys on a recent trip to E”Y. Mr. Steinberg was really pumped about joining the Chayal. May HKB”H watch over them and all the soldiers and may they all come home safe.

  11. Moisy, you are a very sensitive, unique, special person. It takes real soul searching and courage to do what you are doing. May Hashem protect you and all the other soldiers who are out there protecting all of us.

  12. Wow. This is so courageous! Some advice from my time there….

Be strong, but don’t harden. Follow orders, but don’t be blind. Stay simple, but aware of the complexity. Enjoy the way it develops you, but not as a soldier – as a person.
