PHOTO: Lakewood Fire Department conducts Medevac Training

Last night, over thirty firefighters of the Lakewood Fire Department took part in a medevac training (as reported on our News Alerts at the time).

The training was arranged by the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Lakewood Fire District, Chief of Department Mike D’Elia and 2nd Assistant Fire Chief Steve Mulholland and Career Firefighter Joe Johnson.

Training focused upon proper medevac protocols including fire department response procedures and designated landing zone requirements.

A classroom presentation was conducted by Sally Cascio, the Chief Flight Nurse for North Star Air Medical Services, at Fire Station 68. This was followed by setting up a designated landing zone at the Lakewood High School soccer fields where an actual landing of a New Jersey State Police Medevac took place.

“I would like to personally thank Career Firefighter Joe Johnson for orchestrating all the logistics involved for this training to occur,” stated 2nd Assistant Fire Chief Steve Mulholland. “We have been working to make this happen for over four months and all of our members truly enjoyed this exercise and gathered a great deal of valuable information.”

Once again, these dedicated members of the Lakewood Fire Department took time away from their families to attend this vitally important training. This will no doubt continue to enhance the safety of the Township of Lakewood community.
