A 27-year-old Philadelphia man who was previously charged with Assault by Auto following a serious crash in Ocean County is now facing additional weapons charges.

Jared Beswick was additionally charged on September 16 with two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, three counts of Possession of a High-Capacity Ammunition Magazine, and Possession of Hollow Point Ammunition, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

The charges stem from a September 13 crash on Route 539 in Lacey Township. At approximately 8:45 p.m., Lacey Township Police responded to the area of mile marker 16.5 for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash.

According to investigators, a Ford Explorer operated by Beswick was traveling erratically northbound when it entered the southbound lane and struck a Toyota RAV4 head-on. The driver of the Toyota and a passenger in the Ford Explorer were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Investigators said Beswick displayed outward signs of impairment, and responding officers observed multiple open containers of alcohol and pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes inside his vehicle. Beswick was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center, where blood was drawn pursuant to a court-authorized warrant. He was initially charged with two counts of Assault by Auto.

On September 16, detectives executed a court-authorized search warrant on Beswick’s vehicle and seized two loaded handguns, three high-capacity ammunition magazines and a quantity of hollow point ammunition. He was subsequently charged with the weapons offenses.

Upon his release from the hospital, Beswick will be transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he will remain pending a detention hearing. The crash remains under investigation, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
