Petirah of Reb Shimon Gitelis Z”L [UPDATED]

We regret to inform you of the Petirah of Reb Shimon Gitelis Z”L, who was Niftar today in Lakewood. He was 102.

Reb Shimon Z”L, a MIR Changhai Talmid, and Talmid of Reb Yeruchem Levovitz Zatzal, served as a Rebbe in Yeshiva Toras Ems in New York for approximately 30 years.

For the past 22 years, Reb Shimon Z”L resided in Lakewood.

His children are Reb Moshe (Lakewood), Mrs. Hindy David (Lakewood), and Mrs. Hadassah Singer (Chicago), Reb Zelig (Brooklyn), and Mrs. Rivky Zucker A”H (Chicago).

The Levaya will tentatively be taking place at 3 PM at BMG’s Yoshon Bais Medrash. Kevurah will be on Har Hamenuchos.

His daughter was Rebbetzin Rivka Zucker, A”H, also of Chicago, wife of Harav Dovid Zucker, Rosh Kollel of the Lakewood Kollel of Chicago. She predeceased him several years ago.

Anyone know where/why he named his son Zelig? Any relation to levovitz?

I am not 100% sure but I believe the niftar’s father’s name was a version of zelig, such as zelik or zelka.
