We regret to inform you of the Petirah of Rav Aharon Shechter Z”TL, the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Chaim Berlin, and a member of Torah Umesorah’s Vaad Roshei Yeshiva.
The Rosh Yeshiva was from the Ziknei Roshei Hayeshiva, Marbitz Torah to tens of thousands of Talmidim worldwide. He was 94.
Rav Aharon was born to Fruma Rochel in Brooklyn. He became a Talmid of Rav Yitzchak Hutner ZT”L after being enrolled in the Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin as a young child. He also Learned under Rav Aharon Kotler ZT”L.
Rav Hutner ZT”L chose Rav Schechter for leadership positions in the Yeshiva prior to Rav Schechter’s marriage. He also encouraged Rav Schechter to write a Sefer on Rambam, titled Avodas Aharon.
Rav Shechter married Shoshana Roisa Leichtung in 1954. She served as the Menaheles at Yeshiva of Brooklyn’s girls’ elementary school for over 20 years. She was Niftar on August 4, 2016.
They had two sons. One of them, Mordechai Zelig Schechter, serves as the mashgiach ruchni at Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin. The other, Nosson Schechter, is a mohel.
Their son-in-law is Rav Shlomo Halioua, current Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin. Their eldest daughter is Rebbetzin Esther Yormark, a teacher at Beis Yaakov in Brooklyn.
The Levaya is scheduled to take place today at the Yeshiva, 1585 Coney Island Avenue (between Avenues L & M) at around 12:45 PM. Kevurah will be in Long Island.
