  1. A real tzadik and baal chesed. He had a connection with Rav Weinberg Rosh Yeshiva of Baltimore, and asked shailos to Rav Moshe ZT”L.

He wrote a sefer on hilchos shabbos for Doctor’s in 1986 analyzing all aspects of common medical procedures and which melachos were involved. [Halakha and Medicine]

He treated hundreds [or maybe thousands] of poor jews [mainly immigrants from the former Soviet Union] for free, by “the Ark” [a organization funded by the federation] in chicago for many years. Even though he was busy being the head of a unit [I think ICU] of a major hospital.

He arranged and encouraged many frum doctors to be involved in torah learning, at a time and place that it was not the norm.

He raised a family of true bnei torah and marbitzie torah.

  2. He was a true mensch and the kindest doctor. I went to him once with a scary war ear infection that had spread to the bone and he sent me to the er of a hospital and then called to check on me after a little improvement. He was so special! No doctor ever called to follow up on me, a 38 year old patient, such caring and compassion!

The family should know no more tzaar

  3. Dr Sokol and his wife were baalei chesed unparalleled. Their home in Chicago was literally an open reshus harrabim to anyone who needed a place or just wanted a free place to stay. What a loss! They leave over a family of chosheve marbitzei Torah v’osei chesed.

  4. I’ve stayed at the Sokols many nights as a bachur. Dr. Sokol was the most humble man carrying out huge acts of chessed in silence. He would wake early to learn Torah shebenigla and nistar. He would treat every human with utmost dignity and patience. A true lamed vavnick. Together with his wife al”h they raised a beautiful family of Torah and chessed. To Dr and Mrs Sokol, I miss you both so very much and I hope to emulate your holy ways! Please Daven for all of Klal yisrael up there….

  5. I worked with Dr. Sokol for about 20years.He is the best doctors and special men that I ever knew. He was treating patients like his family. Susan And Dr.Sokol was special people. My condolences to all family.

  6. Although I have posted comments before without hesitation, I find myself at a loss when it comes to posting about Dr. Sokol ZT’L. Nothing I could write will provide even a glimpse into the greatness that he was. Yet, I felt I needed to write something

I had even debated referring to him as Dr. Sokol or Rabbi Sokol (I went with Dr. due to his very humble nature, and his deference to Rabbanim and Talmidei Chachamim, that would have been his preferred title). He was a true Talmid Chacham in his own right, a Chacham, whose passion for learning never ceased.

His home, which he built together with his wife A”H was for decades an Ashel Avraham, a true center of Hachnosas Orchim and Gemilus Chasadim. Thousands of people walked through those doors, and the impression that was left on many of them, lasted long after they walked out.

The family he raised, as well as his son’s and daughter’s in-law are testament to the home he and his wife A”H built
