I don’t know which is scarier, driving or walking the streets of Lakewood.
omgggg
I don’t drive so I do most walking during the week and I always constantly look from right to left even as I’m crossing a street. I made it a habit and people should too. Don’t just look once. Make sure to keep looking as you cross.
There are blind spots even for pedestrians.
Maybe yom kipper is scarier
When crossing streets in Lakewood- it is VITAL to keep in mind that drivers do not check carefully for pedestrians at intersections that don’t usually have people crossing. Its human nature.
My condolences to the bereaved- I am truly sorry for your loss
people just walk and don’t pay attention..if there is sunglare or its dark out and the person is wearing dark clothing it makes it harder for someone who is driving to react intime. That corner is bad for crossing the street there is a blindspot on that corner and even sitting there at a light you can see oncoming pedestrian traffic sometimes..they (the pedestrians) need to pay attention too..don’t just always think that they have the right of way when crossing against the light..you take your life in your hands when you do that..its just wrong on both sides
My condolences to the family
Frum couple was just similarly killed by out of control driver this past shabbos in East Brunswick. Huge tragedy.
passed by just as the police were getting there. thought I saw light-colored pants on the gentleman. May he rest in peace.
While murders in Lakewood have decreased deaths due to automobiles have increased. So I guess we are no safer now than we were 30 years ago. But at least we have nicer landscaping.
reflectors is the CRUX of the matter. it needs to be promoted. manufactures that have reflectors should be promoted. monsey’s problem is MUCH WORSE. so that can broaden the customer base.
since many people read your blog its important to note SPEAKING ON A CELLPHONE ISNT ONLY DANGEROUS WHILE YOU DRIVE BUT FOR PEDESTRIANS AS WELL
We’re going for the Boro Park look in the landscape. It’s beautiful for sure, just a few more houses and cars and we’re there!! By golly, I bet we can even exceed Boro Park and Williamsburg with the smart development plan they’ll adopt.
Condolences to the family of the man killed. What a terrible tragedy for them.
“Frum couple was just similarly killed by out of control driver this past shabbos in East Brunswick..”
How is this similar? That incident involved an out-of-control car while this one involved a driver not seeing a pedestrian in dark clothes. apples and oranges.
to “out of towner”:
The couple killed in East Brunswick were actually standing on the curb, not the street.
I guess the gziera shuvah is that in both cases someone was killed, very similar…..
condolences to all the families that have suffered these terrible tragedies.
Reflectors please–the other night on Cross several young men walking after dark did not see them until i was alsmost next to them and the speed limit on Cross Street is 45
I knew Tom. He was a sweet man. Would go out of his way for his friends….Such a tragic loss. 🙁
Very sorry for the family. Someone has to explain to people that the right of way for crossing at an intersection doesn’t mean that they should ignore the lights! When I visited my daughter at college last year, the light turned green and the college kids just kept walking because they felt with the new law (cars stopping for pedestrians in the crosswalk), the light didn’t matter! I think the law needs to be clarified for pedestrians.
There is no longer an against the light defence, drivers now must yield to any pedestrian crossing at a cross walk.
soory to tell you that people walk in front of cars
so its not always the drivers fault
Pretty soon we will bentsch Gomel after successfully crossing the street.
i saw the guy laying on the floor and the police were just standing and talking.
wear you refletors, the life you save may be your own.
