Ocean County Seniors Invited to 2024 Senior Health Fair

Seniors across the county are invited to the Ocean County Health Department (OCHD) for the 2024 Senior Health Fair on April 8, 2024, from 9:30 P.M. to 12:30 P.M. for a special health and wellness event that will include free disease screenings, Narcan distribution, vaccine clinic services, diabetes education, and so much more.

“The Senior Health Fair is a fantastic health event for the seniors in Ocean County,” said Gary Quinn, Ocean County Commissioner Deputy Director, and Liaison to the Ocean County Board of Health. “We would like to encourage all our seniors to bring their friends and take part in this “one-stop-shop” opportunity where individuals can receive a variety of important health checks and services under one roof in one day – and most services provided at no cost.”

“The Senior Health Fair is just one of a series of health and wellness events that we provide in an effort to continue meeting the critical needs of the growing and diverse population we have here in Ocean County,” explained Daniel E. Regenye, OCHD Public Health Coordinator. “With more than 200,000 seniors in Ocean County it’s imperative we offer these types of free health services and resources that otherwise may not be available to them or perhaps haven’t been made a priority. So many people who come to this health fair are very pleased with this special opportunity that in many instances a single visit to the doctor wouldn’t provide.”

Seniors and older adults are invited to come out for the free screenings and additional services provided by the Ocean County Health Department:

  • CHRONIC DISEASE SCREENINGS
  • DIABETES EDUCATION
  • HEPATITIS (HCV) TESTING
  • GENERAL HEALTH EDUCATION & NUTRITION
  • NARCAN DISTRIBUTION
  • ANIMAL ADOPTIONS
  • COMMUNITY REFERRALS
  • IMMUNIZATIONS: * FLU, PNEUMONIA, COVID, Tdap & SHINGLES

A special treat at the 2024 Senior Health Fair includes showcasing several cats and dogs that are available for adoption from the Ocean County Animal Facilities. Individuals who may be considering a companion pet will have an opportunity to visit – or see pictures – of some of our adorable and loving animals in need of permanent loving homes.

Regenye added, “A pet can be such a benefit for an older adult that can care for a cat or dog. They give not only companionship and unconditional love but can also provide health benefits such as lower blood pressure, reduced stress and anxiety, better cognitive function and improve fitness.”

The Ocean County Health Department 2024 Senior Health Fair is being held on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 9:30 A.M. -12:30 P.M.at the Ocean County Health Department located at 175 Sunset Avenue, Toms River.

  1. Upon finishing all of his health checks and health screenings at the 2023 Ocean County Health Care Fair, Lakewood Senior, Rick Hothburg, asked one of the health fair screeners: “So, how is my overall health fairing?”
“Overall, I would say your health is pretty fair,” the health fair screener replied.
“That’s it?!” Mr. Hothburg asked the screener, “just FAIR?!”
“I’m sorry,” the health fair volunteer replied, “you’re overall health is fair, that’s all I can say. However, if you’d like a more enthusiastic response, I would recommend you stop coming to the annual ‘Health Care Fair, and go, instead, to the ‘Excellence In Health Care’ event. You’ll get excellent results over there.”
“Fair enough,” Mr. Hothburg told the fair screener, “that’s excellent advice!”
