Ocean County law enforcement agencies will participate in a coordinated, high-visibility traffic enforcement effort Friday aimed at reducing dangerous driving and preventing crashes as New Jersey approaches the end of the busy summer travel season.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and local law enforcement agencies will participate in the statewide Goal: Zero traffic enforcement detail throughout the day and night on Friday, September 4, the Friday before Labor Day weekend.

As of September 3, 357 people have died on New Jersey roadways this year, including 26 in Ocean County, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The enforcement effort comes as motorists prepare for one of the busiest travel periods of the summer, when increased traffic, holiday celebrations, pedestrian activity and impaired driving can contribute to a higher risk of serious crashes.

The detail also marks the conclusion of the so-called “106 Deadliest Days” between Memorial Day and Labor Day, a period traditionally associated with increased traffic fatalities.

The Goal: Zero campaign was launched in 2024 after Holmdel Township Patrolman Matt Menosky brought together law enforcement agencies from 36 municipalities to focus on dangerous driving behaviors.

Ocean County officials are urging motorists to take extra precautions over the holiday weekend, including obeying speed limits, remaining attentive behind the wheel and never driving while impaired.

The coordinated enforcement effort will target dangerous driving behaviors and will be conducted by participating law enforcement agencies throughout Ocean County on Friday.
