NJ Republicans Blast Bill That Would Provide Undocumented Immigrants Covid-19 Stimulus Payments

New Jersey Republicans are blasting a bill that would provide $35 million to undocumented immigrants in the state as part of Covid-19 stimulus payments made to residents of the Garden State.

Bill S-2480, sponsored by state Senators Ruiz and Quijano would give $1,000 to 52,000 undocumented immigrants in New Jersey that pay taxes, arguing that because they contribute to the government’s revenue they should be given stimulus payments just like other taxpayers.

But Republicans are having none of it, saying that those funds should be used to assist school districts across the state whose budgets have been decimated by budget cuts.

In a statement, Senator Holzapfel and Assemblymen McGuckin and Catalano said that the state cannot afford to give undocumented immigrants money at a time when New Jersey is facing severe economic challenges. The state Treasurer recently said that New Jersey is projected to have a $10 billion deficit in through fiscal year 2021.

“For too long New Jersey has catered to undocumented immigrants, and this potential legislation is no different,” the lawmakers said. “Our state is the epicenter of a pandemic which has taken a massive toll on our economy. The unemployment system is overwhelmed, and millions of residents are out of work. Small businesses are suffering and we simply don’t have the money to invest in the thousands of undocumented immigrants who reside in our state.”

The Republican lawmakers said that such payments have no place at a time when Governor Murphy is saying that there may be new cuts to school funding because of the pandemic.

“First we become a sanctuary state, then we want to give drivers licenses and financial aid to undocumented immigrants. Now we want to give them all $1,000 each. We say enough is enough.”

  1. You should be furious reading this. It is time to put a STOP to this madness. These Democrats have a lot of nerve giving hard earned tax dollars to illegals. We have school districts that could use the money. When November comes it’s time to remove these people that think is is just fine to give TAX dollars away.

    • Let me tell you something. Furious? Hmm well there are many many visa and paying US residents that are not citizens that are not getting any stimulus payments. And lets say they are Canadian, well they aren’t getting any payments from there as well. Why? Because they aren’t living in Canada. So they should they lose out on both ends then, and struggle and potentially face eviction for non rent payments, and who cares right? US residents and yes even some illegals pay tax, so stop saying oh it’s not fair to us as taxpayers. The US has become quite self centered recently, forgetting that many of its own people were immigrants at one point in time. Very very hostile to outsiders.

      • Let me tell you something. If you came here legally you are welcome and should be helped, but if you violate our laws thumb your noise at our immigration system and sneak in for the free stuff its time for you to leave.

There is a difference between legal and illegal stop grouping them together, they are not the same and should not be treated the same.

      • You are so very very wrong.

You wrote, “The US has become quite self centered recently, forgetting that many if its own people were immigrants at one point in time.,” and you are correct that they were IMMIGRANTS. They were IMMIGRANTS!! They were NOT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!

My grandparents and great grandparents FOLLOWED THE RULES as did just about everyone who came in via Ellis Island, Baltimore, or wherever their port of entry was.

We are talking about people who are NOT following the rules. They thumb their nose at our rules and they deserve BUBKIS!

  2. Enough giving away our money to illegals! Enough sponsoring illegals! it’s time that we take back our state from the Uber leftist wackos. Now is the time! We cannot wait.

  3. I actually dont get it. If they are paying taxes, which means we know about them, then deport them. But while they arent deported, for whatever reason, i think it DOES MAKE SENSE that they should get back some of the money they pay in.

  4. 35 million is just bubkes/a drop in the bucket for NJ. While most people enjoyed some form of government assistance through the Cares Act, these poor people got nothing and couldn’t work most of their jobs. They are living mamash on the brink. The torah teaches us to have compassion on all mankind, especially during tough times. Legal or not, they are still human beings with tzelem elokim. Stop the selfishness. You don”t need the Lubavitcher Rebbe to say this, it’s basic human dignity. (nothingto do with tikkun ha’olam either)

  5. how about first paying the legal us citizens first. many have not received anything yet.

and just because someone made money in 2019 doesn’t mean they have money to put food on the table since the epidemic hit.

as it is we pay for illegal undocumented families education – why.

    .

  6. My child, because of being the age of 18 and able to be claimed as a dependent under my tax return received ZERO. She is heading to college and could have used that money for books, etc. She gets no financial aid and will have to pay for her 4 years of college. Illegals get financial aid, free healthcare, free lunch, food stamps, welfare for their anchor babies, etc. Amazing how they think they are entitled. I wonder if I would be entitled in Mexico of all those resources. .
