Residents may see columns of smoke in the area today, as the New Jersey Forest Fire Service conducts prescribed burns around Ocean and other Counties.

The following areas will conduct prescribed burns:

Maple Lake WMA, Estell Manor

Great Egg Harbor WMA, Hamilton

Private property, Mullica

Township property, Hamilton

Burlington County

Brendan Byrne State Forest, Pemberton and Woodland

Wharton State Forest, Shamong and Washington

Cape May County

Beaver Swamp WMA, Middle Cape May

Belleplain State Forest, Upper Cape May

Cumberland County

Landis Sewage Authority, Vineland

Ocean County

Colliers Mills WMA, Jackson

Metedeconk Golf Course, Jackson

Double Trouble State Park, Berkeley

Ocean County Park, Berkeley

Bass River State Forest, Little Egg Harbor

Greenwood WMA, Barnegat and Lacey

Controlled burns are also taking place in Lakewood near Lake Shenandoah, and Ocean County Park on Route 88.

The prescribed burns, which take place at state parks and forests, are to control potential forest fires by burning the brush.
