Next Up: Manchester Twp to hold Meeting to Discuss Proposal of “No Knock” Registry

no knockFollowing in the footsteps of neighboring Jackson and Lakehurst Townships, Manchester Township will be holding a public workshop to discuss the possibility of proposing a “No Knock” registry within the township.

The public session is schedule for their next Township meeting.

Under the proposed ordinance revision, residents would be able to opt out of visits by door-to-door solicitors by registering with the Township Clerk’s Office. While the current ordinance does provide safeguards for the public, including a mandatory registration and permitting process for those going door-to-door, the “No Knock” provision would give residents greater control over their privacy at home.

If approved, Township officials will work to create a convenient solution by which residents can add their residence to the “No Knock” list, should they chose to do so. Solicitors then would have to comply with the list when going door-to-door or face penalties. Neighboring towns, including Lakehurst and Jackson, recently adopted similar “No Knock” ordinances regulating door-to-door solicitations.

  1. Since my husband works long hours I am frequently home alone with my children and feel very uncomfortable with men coming to my door at all hours of the day and night (and sometimes as late as 12am!). Would Lakewood ever consider passing such an ordinance?

Which part of town do you reside in. I have never had anyone knock on my door later than 9:15. Your claim of strange men knocking at 12:00 AM doesn’t sound credible. Was it perhaps a neighbor with an emergency and you ignored the knocking?

  3. I will love if lakewood would do something like that. I am soooo tired and annoyed by this. All the time is either people trying to switch your electric or gas to their companies or whats even worst religious groups. There is no privacy!!! when this happens I have to make sure my kids don’t open the door and If they do, thinking is their friends, I also have to be running after my dog to make sure she doesn’t runs out of the house after this people, and if wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t soo often. It feels like harassment.
