If you’ve been wondering what that pile of dirt is going to be on a 3.1 acre site at the corner of Cedar Bridge and New Hampshire avenues, it won’t be long before it is transformed into QuickChek Store #152. The 5,496 square-foot store will include 16 fuel pumps so customers can gas up in addition to buying breakfast, lunch, and dinner on their way to and from work.
The new store is one of five new QuickCheks opening this summer and fall in New Jersey, according to John Schaninger, vice president of sales and marketing for QuickChek. The others are located in Mount Arlington, Marlboro, Howell, and Fairfield.
The new Lakewood store, which is expected to open in the early fall, will be the second QuickChek store in Lakewood. The 45-year-old QuickChek store #36 is located at 194 New Hampshire Avenue at the corner of Route 88 and New Hampshire. That store is open 24/7 and does not have fuel pumps.
The new store will also be open round the clock, said Richard Lamont, QuickChek’s senior real estate development manager. “The site is fully approved and is under construction as we speak. We had great support for the project from the township and had no opposition during the process,” he said. “The goal is for an early fall opening.”
Schaninger said that when QuickChek representatives first looked at the site they found that more than 40,000 cars go through that intersection daily and that traffic is made up of the local population or residents of Lakewood. The day population or people who work in Lakewood or nearby pass through to get to other destinations.
“Our core business is food and fuel. We have people stopping to buy breakfast on their way to work, and people coming in to buy lunch while they are at work and then stopping in after work to get something to take home for dinner,” he said.
Schaninger said they are also looking at offering specialized food products for those who eat kosher foods.
The new QuickChek is located across from FirstEnergy Park, home of the Lakewood BlueClaws, and the Lakewood Industrial Park.
Based in Whitehouse Station, N.J., the privately owned company has 140 retail locations throughout New Jersey, New York’s Hudson Valley and Long Island.

I’ve been waiting a long time for a gas station in that area of town. Whenever I’m heading to the GS Parkway along Cedarbridge I need to go out of my way to fill up.

You probably won’t be able make a left out of there. I’m sure they’ll have “no left turn” signs at the exits.
Agree with other poster. If you are headed to the parkway down Cedarbridge, you are going to have a hard time heading back in that direction.

Perfect location. It’s a spot that’s been crying for gas/convenience for a long time
many years ago I believe a WaWa was planned for that corner. before they sold gas.
Give credit to where credit is due. This project was the work of Mayor Akerman who insisted that Muller retain the frontage on Cedarbridge for commercial use and not developed into more townhouses. If not for Akerman, this site would’ve been all residential.
