Residents and businesses across Ocean and Monmouth counties are being ordered to reduce water usage as drought conditions continue to impact the region.
New Jersey American Water issued an emergency notification Thursday announcing a mandatory water conservation order for customers served in Ocean and Monmouth counties. The order took effect immediately and is expected to remain in place until further notice.
Under the conservation order, customers must limit all non-essential outdoor water use, including restricting outdoor watering to no more than twice per week, or less if rainfall occurs.
The utility said the measures are necessary to reduce water consumption during the ongoing drought and help preserve water supplies. Officials noted that customers will be notified when conditions improve and the conservation order is lifted.
The alert advises landlords whose water service accounts are in their names to inform tenants of the restrictions.
According to the notice, the conservation order is currently projected to remain in effect through at least September 1, though that date could change depending on weather conditions and water supply levels.
Residents are encouraged to conserve water whenever possible and avoid unnecessary outdoor water use until the restrictions are lifted.

maybe town should stop flushing the hydrants seems like they do it every few months, i grew u in Brooklyn i never saw them doing this
They always did it at least twice a year i don’t know what block you lived on that didn’t have a hydrant that you didn’t see ot
I also grew up in Brooklyn many moons ago, and they used to turn on the hydrants in the summer for the kids to play in and cool off. Many apartments had no AC then.
The good news is it’s just a water company telling you that, the people who rip you off, they have absolutely no control, do not listen to what they say
