With the arrival of October, New Jersey’s gas tax is now at 50.7 cents a gallon, a 9.7 cents per gallon (22%) increase over the previous tax rate, and the fourth-highest gas tax in the United States.
The increase was approved earlier this year due to dwindling revenues from the gas tax as motorists stayed off the road due to the pandemic. The state is required by a law signed by former Governor Christie to raise the gas tax as necessary to help fund a coffer used for upgrades and other improvements to New Jersey’s roads.
New Jersey motorists are far from pleased.
“Taxes are high enough as it is in New Jersey,” a Toms River resident told TLS. “This is a never-ending cycle of tax increases. The higher the gas tax goes, the fewer people will be on the roads, which will force them to raise the tax yet again. It’ll never end until nobody is driving on the roads at all.”
Keep voting Democrat folks! Don’t worry. They’ll eventually figure out how to tax you at 100%, but its all good because we’ll get a government check.
For anyone reading this who hasn’t figured it out, this is sarcasm.
Don’t let anyone tell you the democrats care about the lower and middle class.
The higher gas tax, higher tolls on GSP, NJ Turnpike hurt us all.
Roll back the gas tax!
Vote straight Republican.
Get rid of Governor Murphy
