New Jersey Could Soon Have Digital License Plates

New Jersey may soon be the fifth state in the country to offer drivers the option to purchase a digital license plate for their vehicle under a bill being considered by the Senate Transportation Committee today.

The bill, which was already approved by the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee, will allow users to renew their vehicle registration, which can done through an app.

However, if a registration is not renewed on time, the plate could be designed to include an ‘INVALID’ sign.

The license plates, which are only available to purchase from one company, start at $19.95 per month for a 48 month subscription or $215.40 for a four-year plan.

The plates are currently available in four states, Arizona, California, Michigan and Texas, but are legal to use in all 50 states. Texas only allows the electronic plates to be used for commercial fleets.

The bill will need to clear both chamber of the Legislature before it can head to Governor Murphy’s desk for his signature.

According to the article. It allows you to pay your registration through an app.
Requires a 19.95 monthly fee.
If you registration expires, the word Expired shows on the plate.
I’ll also assume if the car is stolen, the plate can say stolen.

No one has ever said sounds great, take my money.

Why would I want to pay for my license plate?

Why would I want to pay yet another sub and for a license plate, it offers nothing.

The digital plates will be able to display different emergency messages, such as if a vehicle is stolen or if there’s a local amber alert. The plates will also have built-in tracking abilities to help locate stolen cars.

Why can’t we just keep the same plates and make it easier, cheaper and longer. This is beyond stupid and waste of money. Probably someone getting money off of this.

The whole point of the covid bioweapon was to make us get digital identities of which this will be an aspect. Together with digital currency there will complete government surveillance and control. Remember the Canadian government froze the bank accounts of the truckers and those that contributed to them. If you like living in the land of the free resist this.
