New Jersey Average Property Tax Hits Record High

It’s the tax that never stops growing. The average property tax in New Jersey has hit a record high, with homeowners paying an average of $9284 in property taxes alone in 2021.

That figure marks a rise from an average of $9,112 in 2020 – a 1.86% spike in a single year.

For comparison, the average homeowners in the United States pays $2,471 in property taxes on their home each year.

A ranking of property taxes in all 50 states conducted by WalletHub in 2021 found that New Jersey homeowners pay the highest real estate tax rate in the country – 2.49%.

The state with the lowest tax rate is Hawaii, with homeowners paying a rate of just 0.28% on their homes.

    • HUD is paid by the federal government, not our property tax.
      Property taxes go to schooling, county, township & fire dpt.
      for 2017 it was
      28.85% township
      2.36% fire
      48.94% School
      19.85% county

  1. Another reason not to have voted for Murphy besides for his signing this week legislation enshrining toevah marriage and abortion until birth into law.
