New GSP, NJ Turnpike Toll Hikes Take Effect In 12 Hours

Enjoy the last few hours of the ‘cheap’ toll rates on the Garden State Parkway and NJ Turnpike. Beginning January 1st, at 6:30 AM, motorists will see an increase in tolls, in what is the second part of a two-phase toll increase approved in 2008 by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and then Gov. Jon Corzine.

Tolls will increase 50 percent on the Parkway and 53 percent on the Turnpike.

Officials say the toll hike will help pay for construction projects on the Parkway and the NJ Turnpike. TLS/Photo: News Breakers RH.

  1. I would love to see an Audit to see how much money goes to repairs and how much goes into the pockets of the Turnpike Administration. We are in an economy down turn let these Public Employees give up a pay raise and bonuses. The toll payers are being hit hard enough and some of them are unemployed….. BUT not the Turnpike Authority they get their money no matter what!!!
Hey Democrats audit this increase, make sure it goes only to the repairs NOT bonuses and pay raises. We know you won’t they are your friends.

  2. Enough with the bashing of employees and their salarys and pensions.
The facts are that Corzine and the legislature approved these toll increases to pay for the new tunnel into New York. Christie cancelled the tunnel but still had to refund part of the money provided by the federal government. He could have cancelled this second toll hike but has diverted it to pay into the depleted transportation fund which had been plundered of its money by both parties. That way he didn’t have to raise any new taxes. He’s blaming the toll hike on Corzine which is only partly true because he could have stopped it. Now the riders of the turnpike and parkway will be paying for bridge and road repairs all over the State.

  3. And what has Christie done to change this? what has he done to protect the regular person that travels these roads to work,to go to school, to vacation ?
What has he done to protect the commercial traffic from this cost which will be passed onto the consumer?

What proposal has he made and has he campaign as hard for a solution as he has for sick time abuse and Romney?

    Christie ..hopeless and changeless

  4. we should use cash not EZ Pass for a few weeks. Make traffic jams then maybe it will be revoked. The tolls were supposed to be gotten rid of a while ago due to traffic but then the EZ Pass idea came up.
