NEW: Calls Grow For Changes To Seminary Placement System Ahead of Lakewood Meeting

With a key meeting on seminary placements scheduled for this coming week in Lakewood, renewed calls are being made for meaningful changes to the current placement system, as many families continue to face uncertainty each summer, Askonim tell TLS.

Those involved in the process acknowledge the tremendous effort and dedication invested by hanhalah and others who work to guide the complex seminary placement process each year. However, despite those efforts and ongoing high-level discussions, critics say the current system continues to leave many families without clear answers, creating unnecessary stress during an already significant milestone.

Supporters of reform argue that the recurring uncertainty demonstrates the need for a more reliable and consistent approach. They contend that while the existing framework is well-intentioned, it has not consistently achieved its goal of ensuring predictable placements for applicants.

The following – and attached – was sent out by the vaad for the seminaries:

“We would like you to review the communication we sent to the seminaries last year (attached), which they all signed and committed to.

In preparation for our upcoming meeting in Lakewood, please provide details regarding any breaches of this agreement that occurred within your school. You are encouraged to share with us, as well, positive experiences relating to the admittance process.

Please respond as soon as possible as time is of essence to us.”

I find it very interesting how the Vaad wants to control seminary acceptance. Why don’t they first come up with a plan for elementary and HS acceptance in town? Why do some girls get 3 acceptance letters for HS and some girls get none??? let them work it out that every single girl gets at least 1 acceptance letter. First fix yourself then you can start fixing others!!!

Because we get a high out of squashing people’s freedoms.

And as with everything in life. Some people have connections and therefore it gets them certain privileges. Nothing will change as far as that.

When this town fixes their problems they can go on to fix everyone else’s. Let them fix the elementary and HS acceptance process before trying to fix the Seminary process. Why do some girls get 3 acceptance letters and some girls none? Didn’t R Mattisyahu say school doesn’t start until everyone is accepted? Yes accepted into a school they choose to go to not a school you’re placing them in because that’s where there’s a desk available whether it makes sense for them or not. Seminary is not mandatory bit HS is!!

So I understand you are saying that every girl has the right to go the school that she chooses regardless of whether the school is full or not and has the right not to go to a new school that has more room. So why are we even bothering opening up more new schools if people can just say I dint want a new school ?

Yes Rav Matisyahu also said that people should prioritize their tzedokih money to help local schools. So why are we raising 100s if millions for very worthy causes and only pennies for girls schools. Tghe minute that schools can flourish with enough staff and classroom space to accommodate every girl ,then we won’t have any acceptance problems

I want to add to your comment: A generous budget will enable the schools to hire top administrators and members of faculty and offer them a living wage! Every cause finds an address in Lakewood. Our own schools should be pushed to the top of the list.

I think the whole seminary thing should be abolished. It’s an unnecessary burden on families that are already struggling so much. I might a fine Baal habos the others day who told me that he needed to give up on getting another Rolex just to send his daughter next year. It’s really crazy and getting out of hand.

It doesn’t need to be abolished that the high cost needs to be abolished.

It’s not saying this is a bigger issue. All concerns in Klal Yisroel should be addressed. All because there are bigger concerns taking care of the less important concerns is not coming at the expense of the more important issues. An analogy would be that although Route 9 has a traffic issue doesn’t mean we ignore side streets.

defintely means we need to stop the irresponsible development, BTW more is coming to cross st, but just sit back and let people destroy your quality of life, and then keep voting them in office

When all the 12th grade teachers will stop manipulating where each girl should go…then maybe things will change

Exactly! It’s unfair that a school will tell you “you must apply to 4 places or we won’t help you.”
meanwhile – they already decided who’s going where. AND they fascinated and directed the seminaries by actually CHANGING GIRLS MARKS ON REPORT CARDS!!

Would Prefer Not to send to Seminary

Dear Klal Yisroel,
Seminary is a luxury. The process is handled in that manner. It is not high school, there communities should get involved. Treat it like a luxury, don’t encourage everyone to go, better create local infrastructure for jobs and torah oriented learning for girls, and our boys will have fine bnos Torah to marry without all this meshugas. Another option, move out of town. B”H our out of town girls all got into the seminaries of their choice. Out of town makes you unique and not cookie cutter, more reasons for a seminary to look at you seriously.

Boycott the cost of tuition.

Things will only change when more seminaries don’t consider themselves “better” than others.

Seminary is beyond expensive. Puts incredible strain on families. Is it worth it?

I think the tzibur is far more concerned about the price not that the acceptance is an important but we need to work out. The tuition should be in the $10,000 range.

not sure

the working assumption is there is enough seats, and the issue is procedural only .
Perhaps what Rav Aharon Leib ztl said in regards to selectivity that it’s Gaava Gaava and more Gaavah is the real issue and the procedural problems are only the symptom. As long as it’s tied to prestige every schools incentive to cooperate will not come about. There will then be same meetings next year as well . Same circus different clowns
