Nearly 70 Riders Already Signed Up For 2011 Bike 4 Chai Tour, Over $130,000 Raised

bike 4 chai picClose to 70 bikers have already signed up for this year’s Bike 4 Chai tour – about 30 riders more than last year – with still 6 wees to departure date. Additionally, the riders have already raised over $130,000 for this year’s ride, with one rider alone raising close to $30,000.

The bike tour – which gained State-wide recognition last year – will again be biking from Lakewood to Camp Simcha in Glen Spey, NY in support of Chai Lifeline’s seriously ill children.

In 2009, one biker – Dovid Egert – who enjoys long bike rides, made the trip to the camp in attempt to raise money for the camp, and raised $10,000 for the cause. But then, it went viral.

Last year, 40 Bike 4 Chai cyclists made the 135 mile trip from Lakewood to Camp Simcha, and raised nearly $200,000 to benefit the campers. The ride culminated with a triumphant entrance into Camp Simcha Special where the campers performed a spectacular choreographed wheelchair dance to welcome the riders.

This year’s tour will take place on August 3rd and 4th, and is expected to attract dozens of new cyclists.
