PHOTO: The driver of the motorcycle involved in an accident on New Hampshire Avenue early this morning, has died at Jersey Shore Medical Center on Sunday afternoon as a result of his injuries, Police Chief Michael Mastronardy says.
At about 1 a.m. this morning, two motorcylists from Lakewood were traveling Northbound on New Hampshire Avenue with motorcylsit Joseph Nero, 23, of Brick, when the two witnessed Nero strik a vehicle parked in front of a home just south of the Lakewood border.
The victim was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
This was the second motor vehicle fatality in Toms River in three hours, and the 6th accident in 2013, says Chief Mastronardy.
In the earlier accident, 50 year old Charles Shaw of Bladenboro, North Carolina, was struck and killed while crossing route #37 near Douglas Avenue at 10:30 Saturday night, Mastronardy says.
These accidents are being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety Officers Terry Warren, Frank Palino, Steven Schwartz, and Brian Doyle, along with the Ocean County Prosecutors Office and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department. [TLS]
You mean people outside of lakewood also get in to accidents?
Maybe we should print “I drive in Toms River” bumper stickers ?
Zvi, have a little respect. Two people lost their lives. Shame on you.
My symphathies to the family of Joseph Nero who died in a motorcycle crash Sunday morning. Also, to the family of Charles Shaw who was needlessly killed while crossing the street.
According to the NHTSA motorcyclists are 35 times more likely to have a fatality per mile driven than in an automobile. It’s unfortunate that with such a high fatality rate people disrespect their friends and family by inconsideratley exposing themselves too such risks.
