2010 looks promising for Lakewood small business owners. The Lakewood Development Corporation (LDC) and Lakewood Community Services Corporation (LCSC) are bringing innovative, free small business programs to Lakewood to help entrepreneurs through these tough times. Recently, the LDC and LCSC teamed up with UCEDC, a non-profit economic development corpora-tion, to offer free workshops to Lakewood business owners and entrepreneurs. The first, “Starting & Running Your Small Business,” is scheduled for January 20, 2010 at the Strand Theater in Lakewood from 6-8pm.
“Starting & Running Your Business is a two-hour class designed to help new as well as existing busi-ness owners with different aspects of their operations,” states Erich Peter, Director of Training and Technical Assistance at UCEDC. “When you’re running your own business, sometimes it’s hard to take a step back and think strategically. This workshop gives the business owner that opportunity,” Peter continues.
“This year our goal is to bring as many resources as possible to our Lakewood businesses,” states Rabbi Moshe Zev Weisberg, Chairman of the LDC. “UCEDC has expertise working with small business owners at every stage of business growth. Their educational programs, coupled with our recently announced expansion of the UEZ Micro Loan program, cooperative advertising initiative and em-ployment grants, will position Lakewood businesses for success as we hopefully approach the end of this nasty recession. ”
Whether you are an established business looking for a tune-up or a start-up looking for a jumpstart, Starting & Running Your Small Business will give you the basic tools to do a professional self-review of where you are and where you’re going.
The workshop covers material ranging from learning the components of a good business plan to un-derstanding basic financial statements and predicting your business’ cash flow.
