The promotions will provide the department with the capability of maintaining the proper para-military style chain, but will not serve as an alternative to hiring more officers. The Township hopes to replace some of the retired officers, but will not be able to do so before next year, when the new officers graduate from the academy, captain meyer tlsPolice Chief Rob Lawson confirmed to TLS. Those officers would enter the academy this August.

“We just cannot maintain and provide efficient proactive police work without hiring more cops”, Police Chief Rob Lawson said in a recent interview with TLS. “Residents want more patrolling and more proactive police work, but with the size of the force, it’s very difficult”, says the Chief.

The promotions were all made in private ceremonies. TLS.

  1. There won’t be any graduates coming to Lakewood unless LPD hires them soon. But if I’m not mistaken, August is the hiring month for LPD, therefore, there won’t be any rookies for at least a year…

  2. Im sure that if you go to the police academy and score high on the tests ,then you will be considered for the job . Maybe they will even let you say a Shiur Kloli once a week during lunch break .

  3. “Why does Lakewood not hire some of the Jewish people from the community?!?”

They could if members of Jewish community took the state civil service test a few month’s ago, if they didn’t then they are not eligible to be hired as Lakewood is a civil service town.

  4. We all wish you congratulations on your new positions! The hard work and dedication you have put in to your careers is appreciated and we hope you are successful and safe in your new positions. You have a great team behind you-and may you all help to make Lakewood a safe and productive community.

  5. Does this mean higher pay? Can we afford all these promotions? Are public worker nation wide out of touch? Are these promotions necessary to secure this town?

  6. Congratulations Sergeants.

    Spagnuolo, Finnegan, Berner, and Staffordsmith.

You’ve worked hard and deserve the promotion.

    BRAVO!!!

  7. How many religious Jews have taken the Civil Service Exam this year? Anyone?!? How do I sign up to take the CSC exam?!? Is it free?!?

  8. to #4 i`m positive LPD does have jewish policemen , may be not observant but surely from the community (and i mean the township).
i know that at least 1 who was born in lkwd.

  9. Congrats to everyone. For those complaint about taxes Shut it And the civil service test will be given out in 2 years on a Saturday and it cost $40. Good luck

  10. It’s funny that people knowing nothing about law enforcement can make comments. This town is a disaster, lakewood needs at least 20 more cops, but everyone is worried about taxes, why dont you worry about your safety instead. lakewood does have a big jewish community, but they cant be cops unless they took civil service test, which i doubt they did

  12. I took many civil service tests and wasted plenty of money applying for civil service jobs with the government (they charge $25 per application)All I got in return was postcards telling me that I did very well and am qualified for the position. No one ever called me for an interview.
